Eng. Azzedine ADJEB, an Algerian national, officially assumed office as Director of the Gas Research Institute (GRI) in May 2025. He is an accomplished Oil & Gas Manager with extensive expertise in upstream, downstream, transportation, and in the management of research and development activities within SONATRACH – Algerian Oil & Gas Company.
He holds an Engineering Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Polytechnic School of Algeria, a Diploma of Higher Studies in Technology from the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (INPG), France, and an Executive MBA.
Eng. Azzedine ADJEB has extensive international experience in Oil & Gas and environmental projects across Niger, Mali, Mauritania, and Libya.
He also served as GRI Project Manager for Algeria, actively contributing to the implementation of the GECF Gas Research Institute (GRI) and participating in all related activities, since 2018.
Prior to his appointment as GRI Director, he held the position of Executive Director of Research & Development within SONATRACH.

Mission
The Gas Research Institute (GRI) aims to promote scientific and technological cooperation among GECF Member Countries, foster partnerships and synergies in gas-related technologies, and lead research and training programs to anticipate technological advancements, develop innovative solutions, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and best practices.
Role
The GRI Director is responsible for the overall management of the Institute, the implementation of its Program of Work and Budget, and the definition and execution of its research and innovation strategy. In this capacity, the GRI Director oversees scientific programs, develops partnerships with Member Countries, research institutions and industry stakeholders, and ensures the dissemination of technological knowledge through cooperation initiatives, seminars, digital platforms, and high-level training programs tailored for experts from Member Countries.
The Director also provides organizational leadership, including strategic planning, resource management, compliance with GRI-GECF regulations. Furthermore, the Director represents the GRI internally within the GECF framework and externally with partner organizations.
