Dr Aydar Shakirov, national of the Russian Federation, assumed office in October 2018 . He has PhD in International Economics. Prior to joining the GECF, he served in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation, Embassies of Russia in Brazil and US, as well as Russian energy think tanks.

Mission

The Gas Market Analysis Department (GMAD) monitors, analyses and forecasts short-term gas market developments, including, but not limited to, gas prices, supply and demand, trade, transportation and storage, as well as factors of short-term nature that impact gas market fundamentals, including economy, inter-fuel competition, energy policies and regulations, taxation and investment. GMAD is responsible for keeping Member Countries informed on the latest global and regional gas markets developments through regular reports and studies. It also cooperates with the other Secretariat structures to undertake joint activities required to fulfill the objectives of the GECF and/or to support Member Countries, in particular in communication, energy dialogue and multilateral negotiations.

Role

The GMAD Head leads and supervises the team, ensuring effective monitoring, analysis, and the production of periodic reports and specific studies. The Head is also responsible for defining the relevant sources of information for the Department's research work.
