Strengthening Global Partnerships: Since early 2022, the GECF Secretariat, guided by the vision and support of its member countries' leadership, has adopted a proactive policy aimed at bolstering relations with both gas-producing and gas-consuming nations, as well as with pertinent international organizations.
Collaborative Engagements: GECF maintains active dialogue and collaboration with several international and regional organizations, including:
- African Energy Commission (AFREC)
- Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA)
- International Energy Forum (IEF)
- International Gas Union (IGU)
- International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
- Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE)
- Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)
These collaborations facilitate the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and the development of joint initiatives aimed at promoting energy security and sustainability.
Observer Status and Affiliations: GECF holds Observer Status with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The Forum has also officially applied for observer status with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and IRENA, reflecting its commitment to contributing to global climate discussions.
Engagement with BRICS: Efforts are underway to enhance collaboration with the BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform (BRICS-ERCP) through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This initiative aims to foster joint research and development activities, policy dialogue, and capacity-building programs.
Producer-Consumer Dialogue: GECF actively engages in dialogue with key consumer countries, including Brazil, China, India, and South Africa, to promote mutual understanding and cooperation in the global energy landscape. Notably, since 2024, the Republic of South Africa has joined GECF as a Dialogue Partner, marking a significant step in strengthening producer-consumer relations.
