JOB DESCRIPTION
OBJECTIVE OF THE INSTITUTE
The Gas Research Institute (GRI) fosters scientific and technological cooperation among GECF Member Countries through information exchange, innovation, technology transfer, best practice sharing, and training. It promotes the utilisation and development of technologies along the gas value chain to expand resources, enhance efficiency, and strengthen competitiveness in the global market, while conducting dedicated research on gas-related technologies and providing specialised training to build capacity across GECF Member Countries.
OBJECTIVE OF POST
The objective of the post is to lead the GRI’s research and project activities in carbon management, covering notably methane and gas flaring emissions reduction, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), hydrogen, and blue ammonia, through internal studies, outsourced projects, and coordination with Member Country experts to ensure that outputs are technically rigorous, policy-relevant, and aligned with the GECF’s vision.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct in-house studies and prepare technical briefs, reports, presentations and workshops on carbon management technologies.

Act as a Project Manager for outsourced projects in the area of his/her expertise.

Serve as secretary to the Carbon Management Expert Committee, providing technical and administrative support.

Monitor global technological trends in carbon management technologies, notably methane and gas flaring measurement, detection and reduction technologies, CCUS, blue hydrogen and ammonia, and prepare in-house or outsourced technology briefs

Expand collaborations with Member Countries’ research centers and universities.

Supervise and coordinate the work of fellows engaged in downstream research.

Prepare reports, guidelines, and training materials for Member Countries.

Contribute to the annual planning process, including proposals for new projects and priorities.

Prepare budget estimates and resource requirements for projects related to his/her domain.

Represent the GRI in technical meetings, conferences, and workshops related to his/her domain.

Facilitate the GRI communications and ensure inputs to the GRI knowledge/data bank, Technology Network and Training Network in his/her domain.

Prepare detailed reports and presentations on research findings for the Carbon Management Expert Committee and other stakeholders.

Contribute to responses to requests from GECF Member Countries and the Secretariat’s departments, as well as interviews, speeches, and presentations by the Secretary General and GRI Director.

Carry out any other tasks assigned to him/her by the GRI Director or the Secretary General as pertaining to his/her background, qualifications, and position.
REQUIREMENTS
Personal Requirements:
• Member Country Nationality (GECF Member Country, not Observer Member).
• Maximum 58 years old.
Education: Advanced university degree in energy-related engineering or sciences.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of work experience in the oil and gas upstream sector (geology, geophysics, drilling, petroleum engineering, and/or gas processing) with a focus on carbon management, including a minimum of 4 years of experience in project management.
Language: Excellent command of English & capable of writing reports.
