1st High-Level Working Group meeting to review the “Procedure for New Members and Observer Members in the GECF” held

The meeting was chaired by Mr Selwyn Lashley, Ad-hoc HLWG Member from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and attended by the representatives from eight (8) GECF Member Countries, namely, Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. Secretary General of the GECF, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel attended. 

In his opening remarks, HE Hamel exhorted the value of expanding the GECF membership as well as improving its visibility at a time when gas has become a sought-after source of energy around the world. 

“The importance of membership expansion has been reiterated by the Doha Declaration of the 6th GECF summit, which emphasises on attracting new members to the fold of the GECF,” said HE Hamel. 

The HLWG agreed to meet again on 13 June 2022, via videoconference.
