A strong contingent from the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) will be participating in an expert discussion of G20 on gas on Monday, 29 August, joining the in-person proceedings in Bali from Qatar, Egypt, and Nigeria remotely.

The event, entitled ‘Exploring short-term solutions to the global gas crisis’, is part of a parallel event of the G20 Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG), and is being organised jointly by G20 President Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) and Indonesia-based Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).

The GECF Secretary General, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, will deliver a keynote speech highlighting the pivotal role of natural gas for energy security and sustainable development in today as well as future contexts. Also from the GECF Secretariat, Dr Aydar Shakirov, Head of Gas Market Department Analysis, will join a panel discussing the market effects of possible short-term solutions.

Meanwhile, GECF Member Countries of Egypt and Nigeria will be represented by Ms Lamiaa Abo Shahba, General Manager of Gas Market Activities, Operations and Networks, Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Dr Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director of Nigeria LNG Ltd (NLNG), respectively. The two officials will participate in a panel on importing and exporting countries’ perspective and reactions on the proposed solutions.

The high-powered consultations mark the lead up to the G20 Energy Transition Ministerial Meeting on 2 September in Bali, and take place at a time when natural gas has become an important dimension in a complex global energy crisis.

To join the event, registration can be made on bit.ly/TSSGGCSeminar. Event begins 9 AM Jakarta time (GMT +7) and 4 AM Doha time (GMT +3).

Indonesia was one of the founder countries of the GECF. ERIA is serving as a knowledge partner of Indonesia in delivering its G20 Presidency.
