HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF participates in the Libya Energy and Economic Summit 2025

HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF, participated in the Libya Energy and Economic Summit.

During his visit, HE Hamel met with HE Abdulhamid Al-Dbeibeh, Prime Minister of Libya, and commended the country’s progress in the energy sector, and he reaffirmed the GECF Secretariat’s full support as Libya assumes the presidency of the GECF in the year 2025. The Secretary General also held a bilateral meeting with HE Dr. HE Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek, Acting Minister of Oil and Gas. The discussions focused on Libya’s priorities as GECF President, recent activities of the Secretariat, developments in Libya’s energy sector, and the outlook for natural gas markets, including the associated challenges and opportunities.

HE Hamel participated in the high-level panel discussion, where he shared the Forum’s perspectives on the short- and long-term outlook for natural gas, alongside key considerations on energy supply and demand security. He underscored the challenges posed by extraterritorial measures, including the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). HE Hamel emphasized the need for alignment with WTO rules and the principles of the Paris Agreement, highlighting the potential implications of these policies on the stability and security of energy supply.
