07 March 2021 |

The 7th GECF Gas Research Institute (GRI) Scientific Committee meeting was held from 2-3 March 2021 to record the progress achieved and push forward the development of the selected projects.

In accordance with the respective procedure, Mr Alvaro Hernan Arnez Prado, from Bolivia, has been elected as the 2021 Chairman of the Scientific Committee meetings,  while Ms Magaly Quintero from Venezuela will serve as an Alternate Chairman throughout the year.

Inaugurating the event, HE Dr Yury Sentyurin, GECF Secretary General, praised the strides accomplished so far and invited the Scientific Committee members to discuss next practical stages of implementation of the approved projects’ terms of reference (TOR), along with the corresponding programmes and technology-related activities.

The GECF is doing its utmost “to secure the interests of consumers and producers, ensure stability of the gas markets and accelerate the momentum of ready-to-apply carbon removal technologies such as carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS). Beyond other areas of crucial importance, the GRI project enables our Forum to develop other technologies , in particular the decarbonisation of the gas value-chain and enhance the infrastructure for carbon removal and storage at-scale in order to lead with actions towards achieving the world’s climate goals,” stressed HE Sentyurin, while terming the Institute, located in Algeria, as a harbinger of the industry’s advancement at a global level.

The 7th GRI Scientific Committee meeting revised a number of aspects of the GRI project, notably those related to the next steps for the implementation of the approved projects’ TORs, pre-qualifications criteria for the technical proposals, training programmes and other areas, in line with the respective Constitutive Act and Rules of Procedure.

The GRI is an instrument to strengthen and improve the analysis, technology transfer, training and research in the gas industry, through cooperation and coordination amongst the GECF Member Countries.
