19 June 2023 |

The 14th meeting of the Gas Research Institute (GRI) Scientific Committee was held on 19 June 2023 at the GECF Secretariat, marking an auspicious occasion as it was the first in-person meeting since February 2020.

The meeting gathered representatives from Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. It was chaired by Mr Timmy Baksh, Committee Member from Trinidad and Tobago.

In his address, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF, emphasised the pivotal role of the GRI for GECF member countries. “Indeed, science, and technology, can expand our possibilities and solve our greatest challenges. I express my sincere gratitude to the representatives and esteemed members of the GRI Scientific Committee for their diligent work.”

Highlighting the significance of the Committee's work in addressing new and disruptive technologies, Mr Baksh noted: "To ensure that we discuss these important topics, we must not sacrifice content for brevity."

Subsequently, the Scientific Committee addressed several key agenda items, including the preparation of GRI's second workshop, held on the same day, which centred around the topic of low-carbon hydrogen. The Committee also discussed the progress in operationalising the GRI and reviewed the Institute's work programme for 2024.
