The 10th meeting of the Gas Research Institute (GRI) Scientific Committee was held on 31 March 2022 via videoconference.
The meeting enjoyed the participation of Member Countries Algeria, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Qatar, Russia and Trinidad and Tobago, in addition to new Observer Member Mozambique. The meeting was chaired by Ms Lamiaa Abo Shahba, Committee Member from Egypt, and attended by Mr Azzedine Adjeb, Director of GRI.
The meeting began with welcome remarks by HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF, who highlighted the role of GRI as an important organ and the ideal platform for effective interaction amongst the Forum’s Members on science and technology.
Referring to the Declaration of the 6th GECF Summit, HE Hamel emphasised on the expansion of cooperation in natural gas technologies, scientifically-guided research, and innovation-led capacity-building through GRI.
The role of technology in the future of gas industry in terms of carbon capture and storage and hydrogen with regard to energy security and sustainability was also highlighted during the meeting.
