Member Corner
The GECF Workshop on Member Countries’ Policies and Projects to Reduce Emissions in the Gas Industry was held with an aim to provide a platform for the Member Countries to achieve a common understanding of the economic aspects of decarbonisation efforts on national, regional and global levels.
The event commenced with the opening remarks of H.E. Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF. He commended Member Countries on their achievements in reducing the environmental footprint of their natural gas industries and referred to the GECF Long-Term Strategy, which identifies strengthening the environmental credentials of natural gas through cleaner technologies as one of the priority objectives of GECF.
His Excellency’s remarks were followed by the Secretariat’s setting the scene presentation, which overviewed the decarbonisation policies adopted on the global and regional level and recent developments in areas such as CCS/CCUS, blue hydrogen, and reduction of gas flaring and methane emissions.
The workshop included distinguished speakers from GECF Member Countries (Azerbaijan, Egypt and Russia), intergovernmental organisations (GECF and OPEC) and international consulting companies (GaffneyCline, Global CCS Institute, Rystad Energy). The GECF continues to advocate for the expanded role of natural gas in sustainable development and the protection of the environment.
