H.E Eng. Mohamed Hamel the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), paid a working visit to Algiers where he was received by H.E. Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
At the outset, the Secretary-General conveyed, on behalf of the Forum and personally, his heartfelt condolences to Algeria’s leadership, government, and people following the tragic bus accident, extending solidarity with the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
The discussions reviewed #Algeria’s contributions to the Forum’s activities and highlighted its strong presence on the international stage. Both sides emphasized the crucial role of the #GECF in coordinating efforts among member countries, supporting investments, and addressing challenges facing the natural gas sector amid an evolving global energy landscape.
HE Mr Arkab reiterated Algeria’s unwavering commitment to work with fellow GECF Member Countries to advance a just and balanced energy transition, with natural gas continuing to play a central role in sustainable development.
HE Eng Hamel expressed appreciation for Algeria’s longstanding support and consistent contributions to the Forum, noting that the GECF continues to strengthen its position as a leading platform for dialogue, coordination, and cooperation among gas-exporting countries. He also underlined the growing interest of new countries in joining the Forum, which further enhances its global relevance.
The Secretary General also held constructive meeting with Mr Rachid Hachichi, CEO of #Sonatrach, focusing on advancing cooperation in research, innovation, and technology in the natural gas sector. During the mission, HE Eng Hamel held a meeting with Mr Azzedine Adjeb, Director of the Gas Research Institute (#GRI), discussing the activities of the GECF and the operationalization of the Institute. The Secretary General reaffirmed his strong engagement to support the GRI in fulfilling its mandate as a hub for research, innovation, and technology in the gas sector.
