GECF hosted the 9th SEDAS Workshop on Data Exchange Mechanism on the 6th of May in Doha, Qatar.
During the workshop participants discussed the processes of data gathering, processing, enhancement, and the expansion of data collection. Improvements of the GECF Data Exchange Center (DEC) System, and the production of the GECF Annual Statistical Bulletin 2018 were also mentioned.
The slogan of the meeting for 2018 was "Gas defines GECF. Data leads the way". Several presentations were delivered by GECF and SEDAS attendees, emphasizing the importance of SEDAS' work in relation to Secretariat’s activities.
The value of the data exchange, the in-house platform built to manage the GECF databank, and its relevance for the enhancement of the cooperation among member countries through data transparency was reiterated.
The afternoon session featured, Monthly and Annual Questionnaires; News and Energy Database Modules and Dashboards of the DEC System. The Secretariats as conveyed its willingness and commitment to coordinate more online or class room sessions.
A delegation from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, was invited for the first time to the event, attending Dr. Adedapo Odulaja, Head of the Data Services Department, and Dr. Hossein Hassani, Statistical System Coordinator.
Participation of OPEC was extremely valuable and instrumental, driving discussions into important topics of the Data Exchange Mechanism value chain such as timeliness, completeness and the sustainability of the process itself, emphasizing the importance of data and the cooperation of SEDAS in this joint effort.
The meeting was attended by SEDAS and delegates from GECF member countries.
