The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) actively contributed key insights during a panel discussion at the World Gas Conference 2025 (WGC2025). The session, titled “The Dynamic Communication Approach in the Natural Gas Industry” featured energy experts from a wide cross-section, including representatives from Gaz-System, SA and SPP, and highlighted innovative strategies and emerging trends shaping the future of natural gas.
Representing the GECF’s Energy Economics and Forecasting Department (EEFD), Eng. Mustapha Adel Amer, Energy Technology Analyst, and Dr. Sabna Ali, Research Assistant, delivered data-driven presentations addressing critical issues at the intersection of energy, decarbonization, sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
Representing the GECF’s Energy Economics and Forecasting Department (EEFD), Eng. Mustapha Adel Amer, Energy Technology Analyst, and Dr. Sabna Ali, Research Assistant, delivered data-driven presentations addressing critical issues at the intersection of energy, decarbonization, sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
In his presentation titled “Rethinking Decarbonisation and Economic Development: Natural Gas’ Dual Role in the Energy Future to 2050,” Eng. Amer provided a comprehensive analysis of natural gas as a reliable pathway to meet rising global energy demand while mitigating emissions. His insights revealed that by 2050, a balanced energy transition scenario leveraging natural gas, renewables, and carbon removal technologies could result in a 46% reduction in energy-related CO₂ emissions compared to 2019 levels.
Dr. Sabna Ali’s presentation shed light on the pressing issue of energy poverty and clean cooking access in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her intervention, supported by case studies from Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria, emphasized the potential of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a scalable, health-conscious, and climate-friendly alternative to traditional biomass fuels. Dr Ali advocated strongly for pro-poor LPG policies and infrastructure investments, citing their substantial benefits for health, gender equity, and environmental sustainability.
