GECF Secretary General engages with Turkmenistan to strengthen energy cooperation

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, March 20, 2025 – On the sidelines of the high-level conference under the title “International Year of Peace and Trust: The Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development” HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), engaged in high-level discussions with HE Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, HE Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, and HE Maksat Babayev, State Minister of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the State Concern “Turkmengas”. 

During the discussions, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel commended Turkmenistan’s leadership in the global and regional energy landscape, recognizing its strategic role as a major natural gas supplier and its commitment to enhancing energy security, market stability, and economic cooperation. He also underscored the vital role of natural gas in ensuring orderly, just and inclusive energy transition, aligning with global efforts to achieve sustainable, reliable and affordable energy access. 

In this regard, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel reaffirmed GECF’s unwavering commitment to supporting Turkmenistan’s energy ambitions through knowledge exchange, capacity building and strengthened collaboration at both regional and global agenda. 

 The meeting concluded with shared aspiration for fostering productive cooperation, highlighting Turkmenistan’s potential for deeper engagement within the GECF.
