Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 24 April 2025 – HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF, concluded his visit to #Malaysia with a tour of the #Petronas Research Sdn Bhd (PRSB) Complex, located in the Bangi district. During the visit, he held a productive meeting with the #PRSB team, led by #CEO Ms. Ir. Norhayati Hashim.
PRSB is at the forefront of #pioneering #technologies across the entire #energy value chain. Its research spans from upstream innovations, such as enhanced oil recovery and advanced drilling technologies, to downstream breakthroughs in refining, petrochemicals, and next-generation catalysis. The company also focuses heavily on sustainability, particularly in the areas of carbon capture, hydrogen solutions, and clean energy technologies, alongside digital transformation through artificial intelligence, automation, and smart energy systems.
The PRSB team comprises over 400 professionals from Malaysia and 19 other countries. Notably, half of the staff hold postgraduate degrees. This highly skilled workforce is dedicated to advancing the Petronas Technology Agenda and supporting the company’s energy transition goals. Their efforts are channeled through cutting-edge initiatives in fluid technology, renewable oil, hydrogen, specialty chemicals, renewable energy, advanced materials, subsea innovations, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies.
HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality and guided tour provided by PRSB. He extended an invitation for PRSB to participate in upcoming GECF workshops focused on natural gas and artificial intelligence. He also encouraged the establishment of strong ties with the GECF Gas Research Institute in Algiers, which is expected to become operational in 2025, to foster collaboration and drive progress toward a cleaner, more efficient global energy future.
