The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) participated in the 2ndMeeting of the G20 Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG), held on 1–2 May 2025 under the Presidency of South Africa. Through the interventions delivered by the GECF delegation in the meeting, the Forum reaffirmed its support for the priorities outlined by the South African G20 Presidency, including energy security, affordable and reliable energy access, just, inclusive, and affordable energy transitions, and enhanced African interconnectivity.
The GECF underscored the pivotal role of natural gas as a reliable, versatile, and flexible energy source in advancing these objectives, particularly in support of Africa’s sustainable development, energy security and interconnectivity, and access to clean fuels for cooking and to reliable electricity. The GECF will continue to support South Africa in its presidency of the G20, in particular through the dialogue partnership established in November 2024.
