Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates | 3 November 2026 – The Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (#GECF), H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, took part in a fireside chat with Mr Lars Eirik Nicolaisen, CEO of Rystad Energy, at the Rystad Global Energy Club Breakfast Roundtable. The roundtable was held on the sidelines of #ADIPEC 2026.
Reflecting on the 2026 disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, H.E. Dr Mshelbila noted that energy security is about delivery, not just reserves and that it now requires diversified supply, resilient infrastructure, flexible contracting and affordable prices. He stressed that affordability is part of energy security: sustained affordable prices support security of demand, an essential basis for security of supply.
Looking ahead, he highlighted that 86% of gas production in 2055 must come from fields not yet producing. Gas exporters therefore need capital that is invested through the down-cycle across the supply chain and in resilience-building measures, requiring partnerships built on mutual respect.
