GECF Secretary General Participates in ADIPEC 2026 Ministerial Leadership Roundtable on Energy Supply and Industrial Competitiveness

02 November 2026 |

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates | 2 November 2026 – The Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (#GECF), H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, participated in the Ministerial Leadership Roundtable on “Energy Supply and Industrial Competitiveness”, held at #ADIPEC2026. The roundtable was hosted by H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates, and moderated by Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman of S&P Global.

The roundtable brought together ministers and senior officials to discuss how governments can better align energy and industrial strategies, mobilise investment, accelerate infrastructure development, and address growing #EnergySecurity challenges in an increasingly fragmented global environment.

Reflecting on the 2026 supply disruption, the Secretary General noted that between March and September, around 45 million tonnes of #LNG were lost from the global supply system, while nearly 39 million tonnes were replaced. He explained that this was achieved through the acceleration of projects nearing completion, the utilisation of spare liquefaction capacity, the deferral of planned maintenance and accompanied by demand-side measures implemented by consuming countries. He further stressed that security and affordability must remain the foundation of decarbonisation efforts, as emissions gains can be reversed when energy supply is disrupted.

H.E. Dr Mshelbila also underlined the critical role of international #Cooperation in strengthening energy resilience. He highlighted that developing storage capacity closer to consumers, as well as cross-border pipelines and infrastructure, requires stronger cooperation among countries. He called for ongoing discussions to be translated into practical infrastructure development that provides the diversification and redundancy needed to strengthen the global energy system.

H.E. Dr Mshelbila expressed his appreciation to the United Arab Emirates and ADNOC for hosting #ADIPEC2026, and to H.E. Minister Al Mazrouei for convening this timely and important dialogue.
