Bangkok, Thailand, 15 September 2026 – H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Dr El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf, Minister of Energy and Petroleum of the Republic of Senegal, on the sidelines of Gastech 2026 in Bangkok.
The meeting offered a timely opportunity to exchange views on developments shaping the global natural gas market, including the implications of the ongoing situation in the Middle East for energy markets, supply security and market stability.
The two sides also discussed preparations for the 28th GECF Ministerial Meeting and reflected on the importance of this gathering in advancing dialogue and cooperation among GECF Members and Observer Members. Discussions further explored avenues to deepen Senegal’s engagement in GECF activities, including through greater participation in the Forum’s technical, analytical and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Dr Mshelbila warmly welcomed Senegal’s continued and growing engagement with the Forum and reaffirmed the GECF’s readiness to work closely with Senegal. He underscored the value of stronger collaboration in advancing constructive dialogue, knowledge exchange and a shared understanding of the opportunities and challenges shaping the evolving global gas landscape.
