La Paz, Bolivia | 26 August 2026 – H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), met with Mr Jorge Gumucio, Vice Minister of Planning and Energy Development of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.
The meeting discussed #Bolivia’s historic role in the #GECF, from its contribution to the Forum’s institutionalization in 2008 to its hosting of the 4th GECF Summit of Heads of State and Government in Santa Cruz de la Sierra on 24 November 2017. The 23rd GECF Ministerial Meeting, held on 16 November 2021 under Bolivia’s Chairmanship, considered both the immediate and long-term outlook for natural gas. Ministers stressed the importance of stable and predictable market conditions, long-term gas contracts and appropriate pricing mechanisms to support investment in natural gas resources development. These forward-looking reflections have gained even clearer relevance today.
Dr Mshelbila also presented the current priorities of the GECF and underscored the growing importance of structured dialogue among gas-producing countries, alongside the vital role of natural gas in supporting energy security and stability across regional and global energy markets.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between Bolivia and the GECF. Both sides underscored their commitment to deepening cooperation, strengthening Bolivia’s active engagement across the GECF’s work and advancing shared priorities in support of natural gas, energy security and sustainable development
