Turning Namibia’s Natural Gas Potential into Lasting National Value

19 August 2026 |

In a media engagement at the 4th Namibia Oil and Gas Conference, H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the GECF, highlighted that this is the best time to comprehensively plan for Namibia’s natural gas opportunity. By emplacing the right investment conditions and planning across the entire value chain including beyond its borders, Namibia can become a key energy hub for the region. It can integrate gas with its abundant renewable resources, mineral base, ports infrastructure and regional electricity networks. Namibia can also strengthen energy resilience, support industrialisation and mineral beneficiation, deepen Southern African integration and contribute a new, diversified source of supply to global markets. With global gas demand and LNG trade projected to grow toward mid-century.

He reaffirmed the GECF’s readiness to support Namibia through market intelligence, capacity building, technology cooperation and experience sharing, while respecting that Namibia’s development choices remain exclusively its own.
