Secretary General of the GECF Visits the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Doha

Doha, Qatar, 26 July 2026 – H.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the State of Qatar, where he was received by H.E. Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the State of Qatar.

 

The Secretary General warmly congratulated H.E. Ambassador Yakubu on his recent appointment and wished him every success in his diplomatic mission, expressing confidence that his distinguished academic and public service career would further strengthen the longstanding relations between Nigeria and Qatar, as well as cooperation with the GECF.

 

During the meeting, the Secretary General briefed the Ambassador on the GECF's mandate, current priorities and upcoming events aimed at promoting cooperation in the natural gas sector. Discussions also covered Nigeria's pivotal role within the Forum as a founding Member and one of Africa’s leading natural gas producers and LNG exporters. Both sides exchanged views on developments in the global energy landscape.

 

The Secretary General reaffirmed the GECF Secretariat's appreciation for Nigeria's longstanding support and active engagement in advancing the Forum's objectives. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for its warm welcome, generous hospitality and continued support. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close cooperation in the period ahead.
