Doha, Qatar, 6 July 2026 – H.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), received Mr. Salah Khaled, Director of the UNESCO Office to the Gulf States and Yemen, at the GECF Headquarters in Doha.

The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest between the GECF and UNESCO. Discussions also underscored the growing role of natural gas as an integral component of the global energy mix and a cleaner alternative to higher-emission fuels, contributing to lower greenhouse gas emissions. The parties further highlighted the importance of natural gas in advancing clean cooking solutions, expanding energy access and supporting socio-economic development.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared interest in strengthening dialogue and exploring practical avenues of cooperation in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
