GECF Secretary General Highlights the Importance of Long-Term Cooperation to Build Resilient Global Energy Systems at International Energy Forum (IEF) Industry Advisory Council Meeting

Bucharest, Romania - 29 June 2026 - The Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) participated in a high-level panel discussion titled “Stabilizing Energy Markets in a Disrupted World,” during the International Energy Forum (IEF) Industry Advisory Council Meeting held in Bucharest, Romania, on 29 June 2026.

During the session, the Secretary General highlighted the GECF’s long-term outlook, emphasizing that natural gas will remain a cornerstone of the global energy mix, with demand expected to continue growing over the coming decades. He noted that this growth will be driven by population expansion, particularly in South Asia and Africa, alongside industrialization, urbanization and increasing electrification. Natural gas, he underlined, will continue to play a vital role in supporting energy security, affordability and the transition toward more sustainable energy systems.

Addressing the growing demand for electricity worldwide, His Excellency highlighted the importance of strengthening energy infrastructure through greater investment in modern and resilient electricity transmission and distribution networks. He stressed that ensuring reliable energy access and meeting future electricity needs will require coordinated efforts to enhance system flexibility, reliability and security.

The Secretary General further emphasized that building resilient energy systems requires strengthened international cooperation and highlighted the continued importance of platforms such as the IEF and the GECF in fostering dialogue, facilitating cooperation and advancing collective solutions to global energy challenges.
