GECF Secretary General Pays Courtesy Visit to the Ambassador of Senegal in Doha

Doha, Qatar, 18 June 2026 – H.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Mr. Cheikh Tidiane Sall, Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal to the State of Qatar, at the Embassy of Senegal in Doha.

The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between the GECF and Senegal, at a time when the country is emerging as a natural gas producer following the commencement of production from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project and the continued development of the Yakaar–Teranga gas field.

The Secretary General noted Senegal's commendable progress in developing its energy sector, highlighting the Government's forward-looking policies that have fostered and mobilized international investment. He also acknowledged Senegal's vision of leveraging its gas resources to accelerate industrialization and electrification, expand energy access and support sustainable economic growth.

For his part, H.E. Ambassador Cheikh Tidiane Sall commended the GECF's technical expertise, analytical excellence and valuable contributions to advancing international dialogue on natural gas. He expressed his appreciation for the comprehensive perspectives and insights shared by H.E. the Secretary General.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to expanding collaboration in support of sustainable natural gas development and energy security.
