Doha, Qatar, 18 June 2026 – H.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Mr. Gonzalo Voto Bernales Gatica, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to the State of Qatar, at the Embassy of Peru in Doha.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding and constructive partnership between the GECF and Peru, an Observer Country of the Forum since 2015, and highlighted the shared commitment to advancing the role of natural gas in sustainable development and energy security.
The Secretary General commended Peru's significant progress in developing its natural gas sector. He also welcomed Peru's aspirations to further capitalize on its abundant natural gas resources by advancing value-added industries, including petrochemicals and gas-based manufacturing, as a means of supporting industrialization and economic growth.
For his part, H.E. Mr. Gonzalo Voto Bernales Gatica commended the GECF's internationally recognized technical expertise and valuable contributions to advancing global dialogue on natural gas and energy security. He expressed his appreciation to H.E. the Secretary General and reaffirmed Peru's interest in further strengthening cooperation with the Forum.
