Buenos Aires, Argentina | 1 June 2026 – At the ARPEL Conference 2026 in Buenos Aires, Mr Rafik Amara, Senior Gas Market Analyst at the GECF, participated in the Natural Gas Stakeholder Dialogue, where representatives from ARPEL, OLACDE, the International Gas Union (IGU), national gas associations and key stakeholders from across Latin America and the Caribbean discussed opportunities for natural gas development, regional integration and LNG. During the discussion, he highlighted the critical role of natural gas in strengthening energy security amid an increasingly uncertain global environment. The natural gas industry has successfully navigated a series of unprecedented challenges over the past five years, including the COVID-19 pandemic, major geopolitical disruptions affecting global energy markets and recent tensions impacting key energy trade routes. These events have reinforced the importance of secure, reliable, and diversified energy systems. Natural gas continues to play a vital role in enhancing resilience, supporting economic development and ensuring affordable energy supplies while contributing to a balanced energy transition. As global energy markets become increasingly exposed to geopolitical and climate-related disruptions, strengthening regional cooperation and integration will be essential to enhancing resilience and security of supply.
