Doha, Qatar | 10 May 2026 — H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), paid a courtesy call on H.E. António Coelho Ramos da Cruz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Angola to the State of Qatar. At the outset, H.E. Ambassador António Coelho Ramos da Cruz reaffirmed the Republic of Angola’s appreciation for the role of the GECF as the premier global platform for natural gas dialogue and cooperation. He extended the courtesies of Angola to the GECF and to the State of Qatar as the host country of the Forum, while expressing his appreciation to the Secretary General for his continued efforts in strengthening international energy dialogue and advancing cooperation in the natural gas sector. The Secretary General expressed his appreciation for the warm courtesy and hospitality extended by the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Doha. He commended Angola’s growing role in the African and global energy landscape. The Secretary General further highlighted the historical role of Sonangol as one of Africa’s leading national energy companies, noting its longstanding contribution to the development of Angola’s hydrocarbon sector and its expanding engagement across the natural gas value chain. Discussions also underscored Angola’s recent progress in advancing non-associated gas developments. The Secretary General further expressed his appreciation for Angola’s constructive engagement in international energy dialogue and conveyed his intention to visit Luanda in the near future to further strengthen engagement with the country’s energy leadership. The meeting reflected the strong bonds of cooperation and dialogue between the GECF and the Republic of Angola, as one of the leading gas-producing countries on the African continent, which has made significant efforts to expand and develop its energy industry in support of its national development, energy access, and the wellbeing of its people.
