28 April 2026 |

Geneva, Switzerland | 28 April 2026 — At the 13th Group of Experts on Gas at UNECE, Dr. Abubakar Abbas, representing the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), presented his insights from the GECF GGO 2055. He underscored that natural gas remains central to Europe’s energy system for reliability, flexibility, and affordability; he highlighted that demand is expected to rise in the near term before declining, import dependence, particularly on LNG, will increase due to falling domestic supply, and supply diversification will be critical to strengthening energy security and resilience.
