H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Walid Fahmy El-Feky, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the State of Qatar

Doha, Qatar | 28 April 2026 — H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Walid Fahmy El-Feky, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the State of Qatar.

Both sides reviewed the strong and longstanding relationship between the GECF and the Arab Republic of Egypt, a founding Member Country of the Forum. Discussions underscored Egypt’s role in advancing the GECF since its inception.

The meeting reflected on the GECF’s recent participation at EGYPES2026 in Cairo, held under the auspices of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, upon the kind invitation of H.E. Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. H.E., the Secretary General contributed to high-level roundtables and emphasized that strengthening regional cooperation and optimizing infrastructure are essential to ensuring reliable energy flows. In this context, particular emphasis was placed on Egypt’s unique geographical position at the crossroads of three continents, the historical role of SuezCanal in global energy and trade, and further highlighted Egypt’s infrastructure including Idku and Damietta LNG Terminals.

The meeting also addressed the forthcoming GECF Summit of Heads of State and Government, and its importance at this critical juncture in the global energy landscape. In this context, H.E. Ambassador Walid Fahmy El-Feky expressed his appreciation for the dedicated efforts of H.E. the Secretary General in advancing the Forum’s mission, noting that these efforts are well recognized and highly valued by Egypt, and conveyed his keen interest in closely following the preparations of the upcoming Summit.

The meeting reaffirmed a shared understanding between the GECF and the Arab Republic of Egypt that, in an increasingly complex energy landscape, pragmatic approaches and long-term vision are indispensable. In this regard, the GECF is positioned to advance such objectives.
