Doha, Qatar – 7 April 2026 – The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) launched the 10th edition of its flagship publication, the Global Gas Outlook ( GGO) 2055, during a high-level event held at the GECF Secretariat and broadcast via video conference.
Marking a significant milestone, this edition presents comprehensive projections and in-depth analysis of the global energy system through 2055, with a particular focus on natural gas.

The launch was presided over by H.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the  GECF, and H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mishal Al-Thani, Representative of the State of Qatar in the GECF Executive Board, alongside distinguished representatives of Member Countries, as well as senior officials and experts from guest countries and partner international organizations.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Mshelbila welcomed participants and expressed appreciation to the State of  Qatar for its continued support to the GECF headquarters. He underscored the dual significance of this occasion, marking both the Forum’s 25th anniversary and the launch of its 10th Global Gas Outlook 2055. He noted that the Outlook is being released amid profound transformation in the global energy landscape. In this context, he emphasised that the report provides a comprehensive and forward-looking assessment of the structural forces shaping the future of energy, reaffirming the growing importance of natural gas, saying, “natural gas is not merely a transitional fuel, but an enduring component of the future  energy system”.

H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mishal Al-Thani congratulated the Secretary General and the Secretariat on the Forum’s evolution into a leading platform for dialogue, cooperation, and strategic insight within the global gas industry. He emphasised that, even amid prevailing uncertainties, the Outlook clearly demonstrates that “natural gas  molecules remain indispensable.”

The GGO team, comprising experts from the Energy Economics and Forecasting Department, delivered comprehensive presentations outlining the key insights and messages of the report, followed by an interactive exchange with the audience, addressing questions and discussions.
