The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) convened the 1st Meeting of the High-Level Ad-Hoc Working Group (HLAHWG) for the preparation of the 8th GECF Summit, held in hybrid format at the GECF Secretariat in Doha.
The meeting was opened by Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the GECF, and attended by H.E. Sheikh Dr Mishaal bin Jabor Al-Thani, Representative of the State of Qatar, Host Country of the GECF, and Executive Board Member, as well as representatives of GECF Member Countries.
The meeting elected H.E. Roman Marshavin, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, as Chairperson of the High-Level Ad-Hoc Working Group (HLAHWG), entrusting him with leading and coordinating the preparatory process of the Summit, which will be held in Moscow, Russian Federation, in October 2026.
Discussions focused on the state of preparations for the Summit, including the exchange of views on key thematic priorities in the lead-up to the Summit, which will provide an important platform to advance dialogue and cooperation on natural gas, energy security, and the evolving global energy landscape. The GECF continues to champion natural gas as a cornerstone of sustainable growth, energy security, and international cooperation.
