GECF Secretary General Meets Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas on the Sidelines of LNG2026

LNG2026 provided an important opportunity for senior industry leaders and policymakers to meet and exchange views on key developments shaping the global natural gas landscape. In this context, H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Dr Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek, Minister of Oil and Gas of the State of Libya, on the sidelines of the conference, in Doha.

During the meeting, H.E. Dr Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek—who served as President of the GECF Ministerial Meeting in 2025—congratulated H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila on his appointment as Secretary General of the GECF. He highlighted Libya’s natural gas potential and reaffirmed his country’s interest in strengthening cooperation within the GECF framework, emphasizing the value of dialogue in advancing shared energy objectives.

H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila welcomed the exchange and expressed his appreciation for Libya’s leadership during its presidency of the GECF Ministerial Meeting. He reaffirmed the GECF’s role as a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and consensus-building among stakeholders, underscoring the Forum’s continued commitment to constructive engagement, knowledge exchange, and coordinated action in support of natural gas as a reliable, secure, and responsible energy source.

The bilateral engagement reflects the GECF’s ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation with its Member Countries and to facilitate meaningful exchanges among policymakers and industry leaders on the margins of major international energy events.
