H.E. Dr Philip Mshelbila, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), participated in the Opening Ceremony of LNG2026, held under the high patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and in the presence of H.E. Eng. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of QatarEnergy.
On this occasion, the Secretary General also joined a high-level panel discussion bringing together senior industry leaders to examine key developments shaping the global LNG market, including methane emissions mitigation, sustainability priorities, and the evolving role of natural gas in the global energy mix.
In his intervention, H.E. Dr Mshelbila underscored the importance of collective action in addressing methane emissions, stressing that “we share one atmosphere, and effective methane mitigation requires collaboration among all stakeholders, as there is no one-size-fits-all solution.”He further highlighted the need for balanced and pragmatic approaches that safeguard energy security while advancing global climate objectives.
The Secretary General reaffirmed the GECF’s role as a dialogue-oriented platform, emphasizing the Forum’s continued openness to constructive engagement on methane mitigation and other shared priorities, while promoting natural gas as a reliable, secure, and responsible energy source.
On the sidelines of LNG2026, H.E. Dr Mshelbila held a series of high-level engagements, exchanging views on global gas market developments and reinforcing coordination and cooperation among GECF Member Countries.
