On the margins of the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) 2026, the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), H.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Farid Ghezali, Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO). The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views on recent developments in African energy markets and to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation between the two organizations.
Discussions focused on the strategic role of natural gas in Africa’s development, including gas-to-power initiatives, infrastructure development, investment mobilization, and capacity building. Both sides emphasized the importance of coordinated dialogue to ensure that African energy priorities are adequately reflected in global energy agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing institutional cooperation, promoting knowledge sharing, and supporting African producers in advancing sustainable, inclusive, and development-oriented energy pathways.
