The Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), H.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila, participated in the high-level plenary session “Strategic Partnerships: Positioning Libya at the Heart of Global Energy” during the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES), held upon the gracious initiation of H.E. Dr. Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek, Minister of Oil and Gas of the State of Libya.
The session brought together senior policymakers and energy leaders, including H.E. Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Farid Ghazali, Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), H.E. Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye and H.E. Hon. Gaudentia Kröhne, Deputy Minister of Industrialization, Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia.
Discussions focused on advancing strategic partnerships to unlock investment, strengthening cross-regional cooperation, and enhancing policy alignment among producing countries. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of natural gas as a cornerstone of energy security and economic resilience, and as a key enabler of pragmatic and orderly energy transitions, including cleaner energy systems, in line with national circumstances and development priorities. The discussions also underscored the importance of supporting stability, dialogue, and sustainable development across energy-producing regions, including Libya’s growing role in regional and global energy markets.
