Eng. Amira Remadna, Energy Data Analyst and Dr. Mona Shokripour, Energy Statistician represented the GECF at a the 2019 International Day for Women and Girls in Science event today, jointly organized by UNESCO's Doha office and Qatar University.
The GECF was invited by UNESCO to participate for International Day of Woman and Girls in Science at Qatar University (QU) Research Complex Auditorium, Qatar, on 10 February 2019.
The GECF was represented by Dr. Mona Shokripour, Energy Statistician and Eng. Amira Remadna, Energy Data Analyst for a panel discussion. Fellow panelists were representatives from the Biomedical Research Center, Al Bairaq education project, the Environmental Science Center and the Gas Processing Center.
The session kicked off with speech by Dr. Anna Paolini, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha and UNESCO Representative in the Arab States of the Gulf and Yemen. Her speech was followed by an address by Dr. Hamda Al-sulaiti, secretary general of Qatar National Commission for UNESCO. Both speeches commended the outstanding research being conducted by women in Qatar and included statistics about the presence of women in science and social engagement.
After the introductory commentaries, Dr. Mariam Al-Ali AlMa’adeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at QU, presented her views on this second meeting of female-lead research in Qatar and the importance of the role of women in science and research activities. Afterwards, scientific and research projects were presented by students in a session led by Al Bairaq, after which Eng. Remadna and Dr. Shokripour joined the discussion. During the panel, the Gas Exporting Countries (GECF) was introduced to the audience, clarifying its main mission and vision as well as the importance of a female presence in energy companies and fora. The discussion let to the GECF research center in Algeria and the session closed with some questions from scientists and the wider audience on the role of women in new technologies, which were answered by Dr. Shokripour and Eng. Remadna.
