FEATURE ARTICLE: FLNG actively contributes to the expansion of the global LNG supply

17 November 2025 |

Over the last decade, floating LNG (FLNG) facilities have emerged as an important component of the global LNG industry, complementing onshore liquefaction plants. Eight projects are currently in operation worldwide, providing a combined liquefaction capacity of 16.7 Mtpa, with nine additional projects under construction, totaling 20.6 Mtpa. FLNG offers notable advantages in resource flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and time efficiency. Resource flexibility allows development of offshore gas fields that are remote, small, or technically challenging. Cost-effectiveness results from modular construction, standardized components, and offshore processing, while time efficiency comes from faster fabrication, assembly, and deployment, enabling quicker delivery of LNG from offshore discoveries to the global gas market.
