Host Country Minister’s Welcome Address
Democratic People 's Republic of Algeria's
Minister of Energy
HE Abdelmadjid Attar
It is a great honor for Algeria to host the 22nd Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. We have prepared to welcome you all in-person in Algiers and to share with you some of our cultural heritage such as traditional food, music, museums and sightseeing. Unfortunately, COVID-19 led to travel restrictions throughout many regions of the world, and we have but to organize the Ministerial Meeting and associated events by visioconference.
Algeria is a founding member of the GECF. We are very proud with what has been achieved by the GECF until now. We congratulate Member Countries and the GECF Secretariat for their cooperative actions and successful achievements that made the Forum stronger and able to fulfill its objectives. The recent establishment of the GECF Gas Research Institute in Algeria is a great example of the progress made in a cooperative and forward-looking manner.
As President of the Ministerial Meeting, I will strive to provide for a constructive and cooperative dialogue, and to find consensual approaches that will contribute to fulfilling the objectives of the Forum while satisfying the interests of each Member Country, especially in these challenging times and as we drive natural gas towards a greater and sustainable post-COVID-19 future.
I wish you and your loved ones the best of good health, peace and success, and I do hope that we will have another opportunity to welcome you in-person in Algeria and be able to extend to each and every one of you the hospitality and warmth that we have planned to offer you in this year.
