New Gas Research Institute receives impetus with Headquarters Agreement between GECF and Algeria

 Algiers

The Gas Research Institute (GRI) of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) received its strongest impetus following the signing of a headquarters agreement between the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and the GECF.

The signing ceremony was held at Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad in Algiers. The GECF was represented by Secretary General HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel and senior officials from the GECF Secretariat.

The GRI expands the two-decade-long cooperation legacy of the GECF into the field of technology. The Institute will work with the following objectives:

  1. Provide a framework for scientific and technological co-operation, through information exchange, innovation, technology transfer, sharing of best practices and training;
  2. Promote technology utilisation and technological development along the gas value chain;
  3. Conduct a programme of research on natural gas-related technologies; and
  4. Provide training in advanced technologies.

“I am confident that the GRI will progressively be a platform for cooperation on technology and a vehicle to develop partnerships with research centres and universities of Member Countries and other like-minded institutions from around the world,” said HE Hamel at the signing ceremony.
