Minister of Energy and Energy Industries of Trinidad and Tobago visits GECF

HE Mr. Franklin Khan, President of the Ministerial Meeting of the GECF, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries of Trinidad and Tobago paid a courtesy call on HE Dr. Yury Sentyurin, GECF Secretary General on the 24th July, 2018 at the headquarters of the Forum in Doha, Qatar

During the meeting, both parties discussed a number of issues relevant to the development of the GECF. Top on the agenda was preparations and arrangements for the 20th Ministerial Meeting of the GECF, scheduled to take place in Trinidad and Tobago on the 14th of November 2018.

After the meeting, the Minister delivered a lecture titled “The Trinidad and Tobago Model for Natural Gas Development”. The interactive lecture gave an insightful account of methanol industry and LNG sector of Trinidad and Tobago. During the lecture, participants and experts had useful discussions on the lecture topic.

Background

Trinidad and Tobago is the founding Member of Gas Exporting Countries Forum and the leading Caribbean producer of oil and gas, and these resources play an important part in the economy. Oil and gas account for approximately 40% of GDP and 80% of exports. Recent growth has been fuelled by investments in LNG, petrochemicals, and steel. Trinidad and Tobago achieved a century of commercial oil production in 2008.

HE Mr. Franklin Khan, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries of Trinidad and Tobago was appointed as President of the Ministerial Meeting of the GECF from January 1st until December 31st, 2018 during 19th Ministerial Meeting of the GECF in Moscow, Russia on the 4th of October 2017.
