GECF Takes Part in 24th Iran Oil Show
Building upon long-standing participation, representatives of the Gas Exporting Countries (GECF) Secretariat participated in the 24th International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition in Tehran, The Islamic Republic of Iran from May 1 – May 4.
The exhibition, under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and organized by the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), was opened by HE Bijan Namdar Zangeneh, Iranian Minister of Petroleum and featured over 1000 local exhibitors as well as international participants from 21 countries. The four-day event is the country's main exhibition of its kind and offers a platform for cooperation between players in the oil, gas, refining and petrochemical sectors.
The GECF, alongside OPEC, was one of two international organizations to participate in the event and was represented by Mr. Dmitry Sokolov, Head of the Energy Economics and Forecasting Department (EEFD), Mr. Hussein Moghaddam, Senior Energy Forecast Analyst and Ms. Katrien Hermans, PR Specialist.
Iran is one of the Forum's founding members and Tehran the location of the GECF's first Ministerial Meeting, making the exhibition is a major event on the GECF's annual agenda. Iran ranks second in the world in terms of proven natural gas reserves and third in terms of oil reserves. Iran also ranks among the world's top 5 natural gas producers.
Some notable meetings during the event included a visit to the GECF stand from OPEC Secretary General HE Sanusi Barkindo, gatherings with GECF Executive Board Member Mr Hossein Kazempour Ardebili as well as former GECF Secretary General Dr Mohammad Hussein Adeli, and a discussion with the President of the International Institute for Energy Studies, Dr Ali Mobini Dekhordi.
