GECF Secretary General Participates in Russian Energy Week

This year, the 21st Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) took place in Moscow, Russian Federation in parallel with Russian Energy Week (REW).
GECF Secretary General HE Dr. Yury Sentyurin was involved in several meetings and events as part of REW.
Most notably, he was invited to the Meeting of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with Ministers and Heads of International Organizations, participating in Russian Energy Week. The GECF Secretary General had the opportunity to meet with President Putin and provide him with overview of the GECF, its priority objectives and achievements.
Dr. Sentyurin also met with a delegation from GECF Member Libya, represented by Mustafa Sanalla, Group Chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) and an accompanying member of the Libyan mission. Another notable meeting was with Mr. Emil Kaikiyev, Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission. Both gatherings provided an opportunity for the Secretary General to highlight the GECF’s long term objectives, values and the current and future role of natural gas, in line with the GECF Long Term Strategy and Five Year Working Plan.
Furthermore, he delivered a statement at the panel Towards Leadership in the Global Energy Mix: Priorities of the Gas Industry, moderated by Mr. Ryan Chilcote — TV Host and Special Correspondent, PBS NewsHour. The session zoomed in on the favorable role natural gas can play in economies of the future and the questions rising as a result of this, such as issues related to production and infrastructure.
Dr. Sentyurin joined fellow panelists HE Alexander Novak — Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation; HE Bijan Namdar Zanganeh — Minister of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran; HE Franklin Abrahim Khan — Minister of Energy and Energy Industries of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago; Viktor Zubkov — Chairman of the Board of Directors, Gazprom; Leonid Mikhelson — Chairman of the Management Board, Member of the Board of Directors, NOVATEK; Dmitry Artyukhov — Governor of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region; and Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana — Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The GECF Secretary General spoke about the current status of the GECF as well as the role of natural gas in the future, and expanded on the GECF Environmental Actions Framework, natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and the potential of natural gas in the future of transport.
On the sidelines of the official daily proceedings, Dr. Sentyurin was a guest at a welcoming reception organized by the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, held to greet official delegations.
