GECF Secretary General met with HE Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum
In the wake of preparations to the upcoming 5th jubilee Gas Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Member Countries, HE Dr. Yury Sentyurin, GECF Secretary General met with HE Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum.
The discussion examined the stage of preparations to the landmark event of the Forum, which Secretariat has been headquartering in Qatar since its official inception in 2010. As per the tradition, a GECF Gas Summit is held in one of the organization’s Member Countries biyearly. The gathering of major gas exporters’ Heads of State and Government provides a unique opportunity for insights into the global gas industry, coordinating policies and energy strategies, constructing a multifaceted beneficial dialogue.
Kicked-off in Doha in 2011 with the very first edition, the series of Summits has continued then in Moscow, Russian Federation, Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, and Santa Cruz, the Plurinational State of Bolivia. The debates at the highest political level result in a Summit Declaration, supported and approved by all the GECF Member Countries leadership, stating core principles, shared values, vision, strategic goals for the intergovernmental energy association.
In 2019 the 5th GECF Gas Summit takes place on November 29 in the central city of Equatorial Guinea Malabo – for the first time on the African continent. On the sidelines of the Summit there are 2nd edition of the GECF International Gas Seminar, Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of GECF, 4th Gas Research Institute Scientific Committee Meeting, JODI-Gas Information Session for the African Region.
Apart from the baseload official program, the Qatari official delegation’s participation in the Summit is of meaningful importance also given to a ceremony of handover of an honor to host the next, 6th edition of the GECF Gas Summit in 2021 from Equatorial Guinea to the State of Qatar.
Due to apparently viable interconnection between energy topics, environmental agenda and practicing sports as an inevitable part of healthy lifestyle, the 6th GECF Gas Summit to be held in Doha will serve as a step forward and yet another testament ahead of the Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
During the meeting HE Dr. Yury Sentyurin has hailed the outstanding accomplishments by the Qatar Petroleum on the global energy market, and also briefed HE Minister al-Kaabi on the activities and initiatives, pushed forward by the GECF. A project of large-scale international NGV rally, which 2020 route is supposed to start in Doha, pass through Tehran and Baku, and finish in St. Petersburg, Russia, has been discussed in detail. The rally is set to embrace 4 the GECF Member Country, alongside driving the NGV performance and promoting natural gas as a clean and safe motor fuel.
