17th GECF Technical and Economic Council meeting

 Doha, Qatar

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held the 17th Technical and Economic Council (TEC) meeting on Thursday via videoconference.

It was attended by representatives of Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. The GECF Secretariat team was led by HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General.

In his welcoming remarks, HE Hamel referred to the rising uncertainties and stated that “the world faces a multifaceted crisis encompassing the economy, trade, health, energy, environment, and geopolitics”. However, he underlined that opportunities lie ahead as “natural gas plays a pivotal role, today and in the future, in fuelling economic growth, expanding prosperity and contributing to the protection of the environment”.

The TEC members reviewed presentations on GECF’s foremost publications on short- and long-term gas market developments and prospects as well as on data and statistics. They received status update on a number of reports, studies, working papers, meetings, and workshops.

This being the last TEC meeting of the year 2022, the TEC members congratulated several outgoing staff of the GECF on successfully completing their tenures.

Launched in 2015, the Technical and Economic Council is a permanent specialised body of the GECF and works to provide active and effective interaction and discussion on technical and economic matters, to share the views of Member Countries on these activities, and review relevant research work undertaken by the Secretariat.
