11th Scientific Committee Meeting of Gas Research Institute

The 11th meeting of the Gas Research Institute (GRI) Scientific Committee was held on 13 June 2022 via videoconference.

The meeting enjoyed the participation of Member Countries Algeria, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. It was chaired by Ms Lamiaa Abo Shahba, Committee Member from Egypt, and attended by Mr Azzedine Adjeb, Appointed Director of GRI.

Welcoming the participants, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF, underscored the importance of the GRI and its expected role as a cooperation platform in technology for the Forum’s Member Countries.

“Research work at the GRI will bolster the position of the GRI as an effective platform for Member Countries in cleaner gas technologies, such as carbon capture, utilisation and storage, methane emission reduction, and improvement in energy efficiency in upstream operations, among others,” said HE Hamel.

Chairperson Ms Abo Shahba noted that the most effective response to challenges facing the gas industry is by adopting new technologies, “in a way that aligns with the international strategic directions where natural gas is expected to play a significant role in the energy transformation process.”
