The Russian Federation covers more than an eighth of the Earth's land area and stretches from the Baltic and Black Seas in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east.
Russia's population is 142 million people. It is estimated that 79.8% are Russian, 3.8% Tatar, 2% Ukrainian, 1.2% Bashkir, 1.1%, Chuvash, other nationalities constitute 12.1%. Russian is the official language but also there are a lot of minority languages. The currency is Rouble.
The country’s industries include complete range of mining and extractive industries producing coal, oil, gas, chemicals, and metals; all forms of machine building from rolling mills to high-performance aircraft and space vehicles; defence industries including radar, missile production, and advanced electronic components, shipbuilding; road and rail transportation equipment; communications equipment; agricultural machinery, tractors, and construction equipment; electric power generating and transmitting equipment; medical and scientific instruments; consumer durables, textiles, foodstuffs, handicrafts.
The country has the world's largest natural gas reserves, the 8th largest oil reserves and the second largest coal reserves. Russia is the world's leading natural gas exporter and leading natural gas producer, while also the second largest oil exporter and largest oil producer, though Russia interchanges the latter status with Saudi Arabia from time to time.
Russian president is HE Vladimir Putin since 2012 presidential elections. Prime Minister is HE Dmitriy Medvedev and Minister of Energy is HE Alexander Novak.
